The WFDYS Board members traveled to Hong Kong, China, for the 21st WFDYS Board meeting, 30 November – 6 December.
The WFDYS Board also got an opportunity to meet the newly elected board members of the WFD Asia-Pacific Youth Section and we are looking forward to continuing the fruitful working relationship.
During the first two days, we hosted Youth Leadership Training Workshop for deaf youth participants from Hong Kong, Philippines and China. The training focused on activities of the WFDYS and the importance of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). We also discussed about the youth advocacy work and the development of the Global Youth Movement. The participants were given opportunity to think about advocating for better Deaf Education, Accessibility and Sign Language on local and global levels.
Interview with Anita Yu who represented Hong Kong Disability group at the CRPD Committee meeting in Geneva.
The WFDYS Intern, Kaarina Huovinen of Finland, was also at present at the Board Meeting. The WFDYS Board meeting was open to Deaf Youth in Hong Kong to observe.
Special thanks go to HKAD and its youth section for hosting successful leadership workshop and the 21st WFDYS Board meeting in Hong Kong, China. Also to all enthusiastic participants of the leadership training and we hope they have tools to support their future advocacy work.
